Senior Portraits for Jenaia. Going Underwater on Lake Chelan.

by Gavin Seim: I just finished up this awesome portrait session. Jenaia is from Wenatchee and her family spends lots of summer weekends camping at Lake Chelan. She also loves the water, so we decided to make that the theme for her senior portraits. We took it a step further however, opting to go under the surface. I collected some extra gear, including a soft housing that allowed my main camera and flash to submerge with me. When the big day came we headed out on their boat with a few of Jenaia’s friends and family. It’s time to get wet.

Turns out working in the water is a lot of work ;) It was totally worth it however and I’d do it again in a heartbeat. Jenaia was really a trooper, the perfect mermaid. She wore her prom dress (not easy to swim in) which we scissored up a bit on the bottom, allowing it to flow beautifully in the water. Jenaia worked hard at giving us great movement and expression. My favorite is this top one, but there’s lots more that came out really cool.

Once out of the deep water we had fun with more poses near the shore. I just love working with water and the scenes fit Jenaia so well. After drying off we followed up with a few classic poses to round her collection off with some variety. I especially like the one of the rock that we grabbed right at sunset. It was a fun, challenging session, but I think they came out amazing. I’m confident that Jenaia will not soon forget her senior year.

This one on the dock is another favorite and we’ll be making it into a thirty inch heirloom canvas that will look stunning their wall. Senior Portrait in the Venue Magazine:

I’ve been doing an alternating series of full page ads inside the front cover of Venue, a popular Central WA life magazine. This months issue will feature my senior portraits. As always I like to keep it simple, so one photo goes in this ad. I wanted to pick something from my class of 2010 seniors, all of which were super cool. I narrowed it down to a few favorites, then crowd sourced it to fans on the SS Facebook page and beyond. I then tallied up the votes and went with the highest ranked.

All of them were liked, but in the end we had to choose one. This photo titled Hunters Crossing, from Hunters Portrait Session last year got the most votes. It has a unique look and and feel that really fitted his personality. It also fits well with the theme of this years senior page. Without further adieu, here’s a draft of the ad that will run in the August issue. Keep your eyes open and pick up a copy in a few weeks.

I do a limited amount of seniors every year and I work to make each of them to be as perfect as possible. It seems I get a favorite photo from every one and I remember the details of all of them. Here’s a favorite from Kylie’s senior portraits in Wenatchee called fountain light. This one was a very close runner up by just a few votes so I wanted to post it as well…. Gav

You must be in the class of 2011 at whichever school you attend.

Parents must also sign release and contract.

Once accepted, you must attend a regular session consultation with a parent/guardian so we can plan your session which will be scheduled and planned as a creative personalized session. Session will be shortly followed by full proofing in the studio with you and your parents/family so you can choose your final images. Any senior can apply. Acceptance is subject to Seim Studio’s decision on whether the applicant is right for this program and is not guaranteed. Details and requirements are subject to change. Senior Portraits for Hunter, Wenatchee/Leavenworth

We started Hunters session in Wenatchee, then headed to Leavenworth. Hunter was really reserved and not really into standing in front of a camera. That’s OK because my goal is to make a portraits that fit each personality, so in that spirit I focused on relaxed personality based images, using dimensional light and taking advantage of composition. Hunter’s friend Dominique was there to help out too. That really helped keep things relaxed and natural.

One of my favorites if this one on the bridge. It’s an HDR taken from the same spot as Bridge of Memories, my award winning still life from last year. They’ll be getting a great canvas wall print of this and it’s gonna look great on their wall. There’s many more however. Here’s a few more favorites from Hunters collection… Gav

Wenatchee Senior Portraits For Kylie:

Here’s a few favorites from Kylie’s session in Wenatchee. We hit a few great spots including Ohme Gardens. Kylie was super fun to work with and did a great job.

The first image is from the fountain in Downtown Wenatchee. Slowing things down gave the great silky water and post processing using Seim Effects finished it nicely. This will be a thirty inch canvas and is going to look. stunning in their home. I’ll stop talking however and show you some results… Gav
